Hotels in Salamanca
In the Bank of River Tormes lies the ancient university town par excellence, Salamanca. It was declared as World Cultural Heritage in 1988. And the first touristic tip we must give you is to start by booking one of our hotels in Salamanca.
What to visit
Salamanca requires some time and attention to be known deeply. We offer you a selection of its main sites and hotels in Salamanca, for you not to miss any detail:
The historical centre of the Salamanca condenses the greatest part of the town’s history and hotels. We can start our visit in the Plaza Mayor (Town Square), the heart of the city, which presents a deep churrigueresque architectural style (heavily ornamented). The romanesque Old Cathedral was raised in XII century very near the square and the New Cathedral, built in gothic style architecture in XVI century. The place where both of them converge is known as Patio Chico.
We recommend the Convent of Las Agustinas among the many convents in Salamanca. It was built under Italian style inspiration and we can enjoy paintings by Jose de Ribera inside. Also, we find Convent of Dueñas, from XV century, having an irregular shape floor plan, or Convent of Saint Esteban, of plateresque style. There are plenty of churches around the streets of the town, too, such as St. Marcos and St. Martin, right aside Plaza Mayor.
Its University, which is the oldest in Spain, has witnessed how many of the most important historical figures attended classes. In the Patio de las Escuelas, we can find the Escuelas Mayores (Major Schools) and Escuelas Menores (Minor Schools)
If you want to enjoy green areas in Salamanca, you can stroll to Campo de San Francisco or Huerto de Calixto y Melibea (Fruit Gardens named after the two lovers in the famous book La Celestina), where the real events the book was inspired by, are said to have taken place.
