What to visit

Lleida does not only possess a past of wars, but a cultural one as well, and hotels. Its University, named Estudio General de Lleida at the time, was founded in the 13th century and is the second oldest university in Spain. Let us start then a cultural tour around the most interesting spots in the city.

After we arrive at one of the hotels we have booked in Lleida, we can start our trip to the Seu Vella, the Old Cathedral, raised in 13th century, in the central hill of the city. It is certainly its most recognisable building, visible from almost any point of the city and from any of the hotels in Lleida. Its huge cloisters, dating from 14th century, and its 15th century bell tower, are a must see. The baroque style New Cathedral, was built in 18th century. The Cathedral hosts La Moreneta (Lady of Montserrat), patron saint of Catalunya. In the historical quarter, we can visit La Panera Arts Center, located in the Lonja de la Contratación a building which dates from 12th century.

Castle of La Zuda is located in the same hill as Seu Vella. It is a Mudejar style castle, raised in 9th century. The wedding of the heirs to the throne of Catalunya and Aragon was held here in 12th century, and lead to the merge of the two kingdoms.

In the outskirts of Lleida, where we will arrive easily from any of our Hotels in Lleida, we can find La Mitjana Nature Reserve, a huge extension park. We can visit Arboretum in Ciutat Jardí, a botanical garden larger than 17 ac, where trees, flowers and vegetation coming from all over the planet grow.

What to eat

You cannot say goodbye to Lleida before having enjoyed its star dish: Caracoles a la Llauna (Oven cooked snails). But if you don’t dare to, any of the hotels in Lleida will offer Coca de Recapte, made from aubergine, red pepper and marinated fish, and for desert, maybe some Orelletes pastries.
