Hotels in Sant Andreu de la Barca

Sant Andreu de la Barca

Sant Andreu de la Barca is a small town in Barcelona province that belongs to Bajo Llobregat. In spite of the archaeological findings that point to an Iberian and Roman past in the area, the first written references to this village date from the 12th century.

What to see?

The town has around 27,000 inhabitants and its extension is quite small, so we can start our visit on foot from any of the hotels in Sant Andreu de la Barca, going for an enjoyable, easy walk. We should not leave without having visited the following places:

We start our walk in Sant Andreu de la Barca's parish church, from the 18th century. Located in the old town, it has a Latin cross floor plan, with only one central nave, buttresses, and side chapels of clear neo-Renaissance inspiration. In the inside, the presbytery's Renaissance influenced octagonal dome stands out.

When we walk around the city, leaving from one of the hotels in San Andreu de la Barca, we will visit the Can Ros Estrada and Jansana, two houses of a clear Modernist influence, and l'Amangué, a 16th century villa in which the entrance arc, with voussoirs, stands out. Before leaving the historic district to walk back to one of the hotels in Sant Andreu de la Barca, we may have booked, we must go through the iconic Font de Ronda square.

We should also stop and contemplate the Santa Madrona hermitage, the Pedemonte mill-tower, the ice well, where ice was kept in the past to be used in the kitchen, and Castelao poplar grove. Nowadays, a third part of Sant Andreu de la Barca municipality is formed by forests and dense natural parks.

What to eat?

As happens in the whole province of Barcelona, in Sant Andreu de la Barca we can also enjoy de cocas de recapte or Montserrat (salty pastries), esqueixadas (cold salad) or escalibadas (roasted vegetables), sausages as butifarra, or Llobregat's eels. We recommend booking your hotels in Sant Andreu de la Barca in May, since that is when a famous tapas contest among different bars and restaurants takes place.
