Hôtels à Ronda

Ronda

In the northwest of Málaga's province, Ronda is an ideal tourist destination to enjoy in the spring or autumn. It is located on a plateau, which is divided in two by the Gualevín river, and its orography is so special that it has become its symbol of identity, and offers the visitor a great variety of hotels in Ronda.

What to visit?

After arriving in one of the hotels in Ronda, we will start our tour in the city's most visited place, Tajo de Ronda, a canyon that divides the village in two. River Gualevín's course has slowly eroded the rock until it created this strange geographical accident. Over the canyon, the Puente Nuevo (New Bridge) was built in the end of the 18th century, provinding a place from where it is possible to enjoy some magnificent views over the valley.

Ronda's walled area is, apart from the city symbol, the place that best condenses the town's history. This area was in the past a critical defensive point. The highlights of the fortress are its walls and the doors of Almocábar, Cijara and Albacara.

The Alameda del Tajo is a park and a botanical garden, with some centuries old specimens. In the Alameda we will see the Teatro Vicente Espinal, and a lake with ducks and peacocks in the surroundings. Next to it, the Paseo de los Ingleses is a path that will take us by the edge of the cliff, a route not recommended for those who are afraid of heights.

The Plaza de Toros de Ronda is of great architectural value, being one of Spain's oldest bullrings (it was built in the 18th century). The Iglesia Convento de la Merced holds inside the hand of Saint Theresa. Built in the 16th century, it keeps its original vegetable garden and façade.

In the historic district, close to any hotels in Ronda, we recommend visiting the Baños Árabes (Arab baths), located in the old Islamic quarter, and the Fuente de los 8 caños (8 pipes Fountain), built during Felipe V's reign.

What to eat?

Ronda's gastronomy is known for its garlic and tomato soups, its roasted young goat or the Tajo-style partridge. The nuns' sweets, such as the Tajo yolks are also widely acclaimed. Booking in any of our hotels in Ronda, we will be able to taste some quality wines, those of the Sierras de Málaga D.O.
